Hadn't been there in a while but the Bankhead forest used to have some nice deer. Look up the black pond area. Little bit of a drive for you though.

If you're looking for the buck of a lifetime Bankhead is by far your best bet. Get a GPS and a good map and be prepared to walk a long ways. But I can assure ya there's no bigger deer in the state as there are in Bankhead. Only downside is you aren't gonna see the numbers of deer

Hogs are all over that place, esp the north west side. Got to get in the creek bottoms, and this old boy is too old and out of shape to get in there where they are thick.

Nothing discourages a public-land hunter like the sight of another pickup truck in “his” parking spot. Consistently successful hunters arrive early and stay late. In heavily hunted areas, early might mean getting to your tree a full hour to 90 minutes before shooting light. This is a tough way to hunt, especially when it’s cold, but it works.

Black warrior is good for both deer and hogs.

Barbour County WMA is gonna get interesting this year since acquiring the Dixon tract. Although I'm not sure if it shows up on the wma map yet or not?
