On February 15, 2018 Mr.Jerry Davis CEO president of AWA, Andy Crockett,Roy Sanderson,& Steve Davis met with Mr. Seth Maddox waterfowl coordinator, Mr.Jud Easterwood Supervising wildlife biologist, and Mr.Josh Osborn a graduate research assistant at Auburn University's school of forestry & wildlife to discuss a cooperative partnership. Within the next few weeks Alabama Waterfowl Association(AWA)staff and members will be assisting the ADCNR with wood duck nest box installments and monitoring nest activity across the Tennessee River Valley(TRV).AWA will also be assisting the ADCNR with the annual wood duck banding beginning in July to help fill a quota of banding at least 500 wood ducks. Mr.Osborn is undergoing a 3 year study on the impact of hunting pressure and monitoring how the gadwall and many other species of ducks use the habitat in north Alabama and has banded several hundred ducks along with the placement of 25 transmitters. AWA was granted the opportunity to assist in the field work with this study. The more helping hands we can provide for projects such as these alongside the ADCNR,the more birds that can be banded and data collected. We look forward to working with the ADCNR and Auburn in many more projects in the future and hope this will not only benefit waterfowl in our state but also give our members and kids the opportunity to be hands on and learn more about waterfowl and the importance of waterfowl banding data. If interested in becoming an AWA member ,1year memberships are only $25.00.for more info or any questions please email us at awa@alabamawaterfowl.org
